MIT App Inventor Teacher Workshop in Puerto Rico

Thank you to Ana Lucía, a 2026 Global Appathon winner, for sharing this update with us!

With the goal of empowering more people to use technology to promote environmental sustainability, I conducted the first BrainyHacks Lab workshop for teachers on September 17th. Through this initiative, I aim to help more Puerto Rican students to have access and the opportunity to participate in initiatives like the MIT Global Appathon. This interactive workshop, attended by teachers from schools in southern and central Puerto Rico, introduced them to the basics of MIT App Inventor and how to use it to teach computational action in the classroom. They had the opportunity to learn about other successful projects created with MIT App Inventor, develop environmental applications, and integrate Artificial Intelligence responsibly. According to the final evaluation, this workshop will impact more than 430 students through the participating teachers, helping them find solutions that benefit their communities and our planet. My mission is to continue bringing BrainyHacks Lab to more educators to amplify its impact and raise awareness, using Science, Art, and Technology to protect the environment.
